IV.

My young poets
do throw the love
around.


I keep it
in a disorderly pile
on my desk


between the big thorny stick
and a jar of their tears.

Oh man, 
I am still pissed
about that parenthesis.

Dear Lord,

It’s like fighting
the adverbial hydra—


vainly.
